College Guide for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students
For more than 30 years, Gallaudet University and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID),
a college of Rochester Institute of Technology, have collaborated on the publication of College and
University Programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students as a public service. Beginning in 2008,
responsibility for production of the guide shifted to the Postsecondary Education Programs Network's northeast
affiliate -- PEPNet-Northeast. All previous guides have been published in booklet form, but beginning with
the twelfth edition of the College and University Programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students,
the information was made available on the World Wide Web. A hard copy of the twelfth edition is available
through LuLu online publishing.
The information within the guide was created for prospective college students, their parents, high school
guidance counselors and others involved with assisting students in finding the right college. Within this
guide you will find information based on a survey of postsecondary programs serving deaf and hard of hearing
students in the United States. We realize that there are many college options for deaf and hard of hearing
students and this guide represents postsecondary institutions with known programs serving deaf and hard of
hearing students who chose to participate in the survey. Some institutions do not necessarily have a program
specifically for deaf and hard of hearing students. But all schools included here have provided
support/accessibility services for deaf and hard of hearing students. As much as possible the guide
presents information as reported by the programs. As a result, the editors cannot assume
responsibility for the accuracy of the information reported by the programs.
In addition to the information about services for deaf and hard of hearing students, general information
such as address, website, size of school, level of school, etc. is also provided on this site. These data are
drawn directly from the most recent information reported by the National Center for Education Statistics'
(NCES) Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). IPEDS contains information on most accredited
postsecondary programs in the United States.
If you would like to add your school to the PEPNet College Guide send a request via email to collegeguide@pepnet.org. You will be asked to complete an online questionnaire about the access services provided by your school.
